Information and papers you'll need to fill out the passport renewal application -
Old Passport
Driver’s licence
Aadhar Card
PAN Card (If Available)
Voter ID (If Available)
Keep in mind: If you do not visit the Passport Seva Kendra within 90 days after submitting the online form, you must resubmit the application.
Appointment Visit
Step 5: On the scheduled date, bring your original documents to the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Regional Passport Office (RPO), where an appointment has been made. You can find the list of documents required here. Police Verification
Step 6: Wait for Police Verification (If Applicable)
Police Verification (PV) is not necessary in case of renewal of passport if you submit the passport application before expiry or within three years of expiry of the Passport. However, the system should show clear PV and nothing adverse or negative like criminal charges to be exempt from PV. This verification takes up to 21 days to process.
Tatkaal Passport
You can apply for a renewal under Tatkal if you require your passport right away. Unlike a regular passport, which takes a few weeks to arrive, your Tatkaal passport will arrive within 1-3 days of visiting the PSK. Tatkaal, fortunately, does not require police verification, nor would you be required to provide a verification certificate from a Gazetted officer.
Tatkal passports, on the other hand, are more expensive. Use this calculator on the passport Seva portal to figure out how much you'll have to spend. You will notice that the tatkal cost varies with the applicant’s age, the number of pages in the booklet, and the required validity of the passport.
Remember to check this list to see which documents you require.
How To Track Passport Renewal Request
Using the tracking option on the Passport Seva online portal, you can simply track your passport application request. To generate the status of your application, the tracking feature would ask for your file number and birthdate.
